The default format providesday-and-time in UTC, whereas local uses a seconds-since-epoch to storethe time value, and helpfully places a local timezone time in a comment onthe same line. The formats are described in detail in this manpage, whithinthe LEASE DECLARATIONS section. This can be used to avoid being configured by rogue ormisconfigured dhcp servers, although it should be a last resort -better to track down the bad DHCP server and fix it.
