I purchased this just to get an idea of what the various states of occupancy does to the power usage. Just trying to get an average feel for where we might be using power etc. That clothes dryer, woo, what a draw that thing is. Anyhow works great for giving you a fairly dynamic (polls every 10 seconds) look at your power usage. To download the history you have to plug it into your computer and use their program to pull the info out of the device. I simply put one clamp around each feed wire and paired the device and I was done. Our house at night with all non essentials off and the refrigerator not running consumes 160 watts per hour. Most everything in our house is on a power strip such as the TV entertainment center microwave coffee machine computers printers and anything else that uses power when it's actually turned off is on a power strip and in the off position when not in use.That being said we now have a baseline of 160 Watts and now comes the various tests.We then added and subtracted various known watt consumption items and this device continued to quickly and accurately display usage. And I must agree with most others the clothes dryer machine is a extremely wat thirsty device. Using this device you can clearly understand your usage and make significant changes to greatly reduce power usage. Many people use things such as QuickBooks to monitor their financial flow and this device is very much the same thing because electricity is money. Range on this wireless device has excellent as my distance is approximately 60 ft through 3 walls also since it operates in the 433 megahertz range it does not interfere with any other wireless devices that I have. I can carry the receiver around with me in the house. The main thing I like is that I am so aware of my energy usage now. I turned off many unnecessary items and cut my bill in half. I know that I should see a certain number all the time when the fridge and freezer are not running. If it's much more, I go check for lights I left on. Added bonus is that I know from looking that the clothes dryer is done. The software is adequate but beware, if you do like I do and upload about a week's worth of data at a time, eventually the data gets corrupt and you'll see usage that's way wrong. If this happens, I clear all the data from the software and re-upload it all from the receiver. I think it can hold about a year of data. Accuracy is not perfect. I can view my online electric usage from the power company, and the E2 is consistently 15 lower. This may be a power factor issue or I don't know what. But it's consistent. Anyway, a fun tool and I've cut my electric bill by more than half. By the way- the software wants com1 on your computer. No way to set to another port. Hedges 4.0 out of 5 stars I called customer service and immediately spoke to a live knowledgeable and friendly person. I'll make the same points here that I relayed in the conversation. It took several attempts to establish a link between the transmitter and the receiver, and it would be helpful if the manual mentioned this possibility so that customers would persevere rather than think the unit was defective. The manual mentions the possibility of leaving the transmitter behind the electrical panel, but discourages it. However, I did so and still have no problems with the receiver capturing the signal from anywhere in my house. I suggested simply offering both possibilities and noting that installing the transmitter outside the panel will extend the range. Finally, my main interest is in running this unit for a week and capturing peak KW used in verifying my needs for a planned whole house backup generator. It seemed as though this couldn't be done. But the process of loading Efergy's free software on my Windows computer took an easy few minutes, and once done I was able to capture peak KW used on the computer. Problem solved! It would be helpful if this point had been included in the manual. The Efergy customer service representative noted that this unit claims only 95 accuracy and recommended dividing my peak KW by. 95 in determining my generator needs (I've measured some known wattages and I think the unit is actually more accurate than that, at least after I measured and input the voltage here). He also mentioned that Efergy makes a 99 accurate True Power Meter which along with a (required) Efergy Engage Hub Solo could do the same job with more certain accuracy. That's good to know if I ever want to audit my electric bills, but at about twice the price, it's overkill for my present purposes. The Efergy E2 appears to be very well made and I expect it to last a long time. Sept 17, 2014 (6 days after the original review): I've now had the Efergy E2 for just over one week. In the meantime I've pulled out my old college physics text and done some research online. The Efergy E2 is actually displaying KVA, kilo volt amperes (assuming the user has programmed in the correct voltage). The power factor can (in theory) vary between 0 and 1. In practice I've seen suggestions to use a power factor of.6 or.7 for motors such as those in central air conditioning, heat pumps, well pumps and so forth. My physics is from 50 years ago and this is just about over my head, so if anyone can add to or correct this I'd appreciate it. But the upshot is that, I've read, it's KVA that should be used in considering generator loads, so KVA is perfect for my needs (in fact more appropriate than rated wattage which can be too low). And the Efergy E2 is also great for getting a general idea of KW and raising awareness so as to conserve energy, but don't expect to use it to audit your electricity supplier if you have electric motors. November 5, 2014: I've changed the title of my review and taken off one star. The first time I plugged the unit into my computer after the change from Daylight Savings Time, it required me to manually change the clock on the unit, then reported a maximum power value of 1692.90 KW on October 30th. This is simply impossible. Previously the maximum value was just under 16 KW and there is no way my service panel could even handle 1692.90 KW. Should've included a wifi or bluetooth module - cannot interface with your smart phone. There's an Energy Hub you buy for that but reviews are meh at present for it. - can be inaccurate for measuring just one device. Care must be taken. If the fridge compressor starts up when you're measuring say the microwave, results will be off. Overall, I think it is a great value for the money. I really like that I can see with the graphs when my demand spikes, what the furnace, fridge, microwave consumes roughly. I highly recommend this product. Scott Kelsall 4.0 out of 5 stars My house has a fairly new 100A panel (double the size of the 60A that came with the house), and I did a neat, organized wiring job with the upgrade. There was no room in the panel to safely attach the CT's. I could have turned off all of the power, but from the wording and such, I don't think it was intended for such measures, and we had a load of laundry going.Luckily I had a manual transfer switch with a little more room, but even that was close. The design of these CT's doesn't make them terrifically user friendly for tight places. If you have a fairly standard 200A service, with some decent drip loops, you should be fine. If you have an older home with a crammed panel, you might better have a pro do it. Saving a few bucks isn't worth losing your life. Operation: Easy to get up and running after everything is connected. User friendly. I suggest averaging your last few electric bills against your consumption to get a more exact idea for the dollar figure (lots of added charges, taxes and such) to input per KWH. Since I'm not home nearly as often as she is, she's the one with the most power to make changes to our consumption. I was thrilled when she started looking at it all the time and trying to find things to turn off - before this device I was the only one chasing down light switches, TV's, and such things. App format is very good but lack of consistency in operation and any meaningful data over a period of time makes this system a waste of money.I have logged several support requests since 27 April 2020 and not once have I received a response.It works very well and few competing devices can operate this many separate circuits. Poor reviews are often the consequence of not understanding how these systems work. The Efergy system is made for installation without need for an electrician - there is no electrical connection to mains wiring. This means Efergy can not sense voltage, only current via the CT clamps. Yes, the HUB unit does require an occasional reboot to maintain an internet connection after my main internet modem drops out. I also have to do the same thing for my internet connected watering systems, so this is not a unique issue with the Efergy Hub. It shouldn't need rebooting so it loses a star, but other wise, the Efergy Hub and Classic are great systems and work well once you understand the limitations. I recommend these products.Initially very good, helped me define a system, although steered me away from products because they were not in stock. Had a few problems with getting my bank to transfer money to them, however in the meantime I took other advice and was advised that the system they had suggested was not going to do what I had requested. I emailed them with my thoughts and the advice I was given, to date no reply. Replied after I said I had been dissapointed from not hearing from them. Told they only do orders in the morning and answer queries in the afternoon, that was six days ago. Very poor customer service, glad now that I did not order anything from them. Been advised by other suppliers that kit is not really fit for purpose. Plenty of other systems on the market so my advice is definitely do not buy this absolute rubbishThis was escalated to support through there webpage and waited almost two weeks for reply Finally they accepted through email there is no solution for this and I have to do a manual reboot every time. 2) The consumption is not accurate, Efergy is showing wrong consumption- The device is showing wrong consumption on web and android app. I have checked and compared Efergy and other power monitors in market and efergy showing wrong consumptionSometimes the transmitters stop working or transmit wrong information. Then you have to pull the batteries out to reset the transmitters. Also they operate on batteries and nothing tells you they are low. There are no manuals to download telling you how the system works. As for the settings you have to input good luck getting help with that. Even when you get it setup the current readings are wrong. They don't match your electrical meter readings. KWh really out of whack. There is no real time monitoring except for the watt meter and it is up to 30 seconds slow. Tech support doesn't do anything to help you. They don't give out a phone number. You have to contact them thru their website and wait till the next day to get a response and even then they will ask you for more information and then you will never here from them again. Then you contact them again thru their wedsite and the next day they will ask you for the ticket number that doesn't exist because you never gave one. If you really want a good system that gives you real time info then buy Sense. It's one device and can be installed in about 15 to 30 minutes. Also batteries not needed because it runs on your panel power. It takes time to find your devices in your home but it is worth the wait.Then the problems started. The local agent in Australia did show a little interest but palmed me off onto Efergy. After getting no support and responses to my email, and persistent badgering I got proverbial we responded a few days ago it mus be in your junk mail. That was it but I was instant and then my unit stopped working all together.they blocked my device.I tried ringing the European number and got a very rude ignorant person who said they do not give telephone support. Well they do not give email support I told him. So he told me to put my problems in an email. Still no answer. I tried the USA same response. The support person I traced to Canada, Luke O'Shea. He tells me he knows I have been given a refund and the problem is my network. Strange how it worked then suddenly was not even recognised anymore. So not only do they give little or no support but they also have no conscience as they just lie and wash their hands. Should say when asked to reset my account by the product agent in Australia they did send a couple of emails in short succession to ask if I have set my device up. It was to check they satisfactorily blocked it. Just be warnedThe setup is not plug and play especially if you have an old or second hand hub. App and website are a little basic, with few features. Lots of potential, I hope they update the website and app. They do not allow you to add 0kgCO2 either if you have a green tariff which is odd too. Suggest others look for alternative energy monitoring systems which have better features unless you already have some Efergy kit.When I first got the equipment it worked straight from the box and its online dashboard accessible via PC or mobile app was, once I became familiar with it, pretty good. My single star review is due to their total lack of technical support. A week ago, following a power cut in our area, the efergy engage system did not restart. After checking that all connections were intact, and replacing the batteries in the 2 x transmitters, there was still no go, but I was quickly able to access their online chat service and an engineer talked me through several diagnostic routines, all of which were unsuccessful. The fault finding took the best part of an hour and I had to leave home for an appointment. Efergy's engineer said that we had just about exhausted the fault finding options, bur perhaps leaving the hub disconnected from my network and the mains might be a good idea. On my return I tried reconnecting - but with no success. Al the above is of no concern to me. Equipment goes wrong.

I simply put one clamp around each feed wire and paired the device and I was done. Our house at night with all non essentials off and the refrigerator not running consumes 160 watts per hour. Most everything in our house is on a power strip such as the TV entertainment center microwave coffee machine computers printers and anything else that uses power when it's actually turned off is on a power strip and in the off position when not in use.That being said we now have a baseline of 160 Watts and now comes the various tests.We then added and subtracted various known watt consumption items and this device continued to quickly and accurately display usage. And I must agree with most others the clothes dryer machine is a extremely wat thirsty device. Using this device you can clearly understand your usage and make significant changes to greatly reduce power usage. Many people use things such as QuickBooks to monitor their financial flow and this device is very much the same thing because electricity is money. I can carry the receiver around with me in the house. The main thing I like is that I am so aware of my energy usage now. I turned off many unnecessary items and cut my bill in half. I know that I should see a certain number all the time when the fridge and freezer are not running. If it's much more, I go check for lights I left on. Added bonus is that I know from looking that the clothes dryer is done. The software is adequate but beware, if you do like I do and upload about a week's worth of data at a time, eventually the data gets corrupt and you'll see usage that's way wrong. If this happens, I clear all the data from the software and re-upload it all from the receiver. I think it can hold about a year of data. Accuracy is not perfect. I can view my online electric usage from the power company, and the E2 is consistently 15 lower. This may be a power factor issue or I don't know what. But it's consistent. Anyway, a fun tool and I've cut my electric bill by more than half. By the way- the software wants com1 on your computer. No way to set to another port. Hedges 4.0 out of 5 stars I called customer service and immediately spoke to a live knowledgeable and friendly person. I'll make the same points here that I relayed in the conversation. It took several attempts to establish a link between the transmitter and the receiver, and it would be helpful if the manual mentioned this possibility so that customers would persevere rather than think the unit was defective. The manual mentions the possibility of leaving the transmitter behind the electrical panel, but discourages it. However, I did so and still have no problems with the receiver capturing the signal from anywhere in my house. I suggested simply offering both possibilities and noting that installing the transmitter outside the panel will extend the range. Finally, my main interest is in running this unit for a week and capturing peak KW used in verifying my needs for a planned whole house backup generator. It seemed as though this couldn't be done. But the process of loading Efergy's free software on my Windows computer took an easy few minutes, and once done I was able to capture peak KW used on the computer. Problem solved! It would be helpful if this point had been included in the manual. The Efergy customer service representative noted that this unit claims only 95 accuracy and recommended dividing my peak KW by. 95 in determining my generator needs (I've measured some known wattages and I think the unit is actually more accurate than that, at least after I measured and input the voltage here). He also mentioned that Efergy makes a 99 accurate True Power Meter which along with a (required) Efergy Engage Hub Solo could do the same job with more certain accuracy. That's good to know if I ever want to audit my electric bills, but at about twice the price, it's overkill for my present purposes. The Efergy E2 appears to be very well made and I expect it to last a long time. Sept 17, 2014 (6 days after the original review): I've now had the Efergy E2 for just over one week. In the meantime I've pulled out my old college physics text and done some research online. The Efergy E2 is actually displaying KVA, kilo volt amperes (assuming the user has programmed in the correct voltage). The power factor can (in theory) vary between 0 and 1. In practice I've seen suggestions to use a power factor of.6 or.7 for motors such as those in central air conditioning, heat pumps, well pumps and so forth. My physics is from 50 years ago and this is just about over my head, so if anyone can add to or correct this I'd appreciate it. But the upshot is that, I've read, it's KVA that should be used in considering generator loads, so KVA is perfect for my needs (in fact more appropriate than rated wattage which can be too low). And the Efergy E2 is also great for getting a general idea of KW and raising awareness so as to conserve energy, but don't expect to use it to audit your electricity supplier if you have electric motors. November 5, 2014: I've changed the title of my review and taken off one star. The first time I plugged the unit into my computer after the change from Daylight Savings Time, it required me to manually change the clock on the unit, then reported a maximum power value of 1692.90 KW on October 30th. This is simply impossible. Previously the maximum value was just under 16 KW and there is no way my service panel could even handle 1692.90 KW. If the fridge compressor starts up when you're measuring say the microwave, results will be off. Overall, I think it is a great value for the money. Scott Kelsall 4.0 out of 5 stars My house has a fairly new 100A panel (double the size of the 60A that came with the house), and I did a neat, organized wiring job with the upgrade. There was no room in the panel to safely attach the CT's. I could have turned off all of the power, but from the wording and such, I don't think it was intended for such measures, and we had a load of laundry going.Luckily I had a manual transfer switch with a little more room, but even that was close. The design of these CT's doesn't make them terrifically user friendly for tight places. If you have a fairly standard 200A service, with some decent drip loops, you should be fine. If you have an older home with a crammed panel, you might better have a pro do it. Saving a few bucks isn't worth losing your life. Operation: Easy to get up and running after everything is connected. User friendly. I suggest averaging your last few electric bills against your consumption to get a more exact idea for the dollar figure (lots of added charges, taxes and such) to input per KWH. Since I'm not home nearly as often as she is, she's the one with the most power to make changes to our consumption. I was thrilled when she started looking at it all the time and trying to find things to turn off - before this device I was the only one chasing down light switches, TV's, and such things. Poor reviews are often the consequence of not understanding how these systems work. The Efergy system is made for installation without need for an electrician - there is no electrical connection to mains wiring. This means Efergy can not sense voltage, only current via the CT clamps. Yes, the HUB unit does require an occasional reboot to maintain an internet connection after my main internet modem drops out. I also have to do the same thing for my internet connected watering systems, so this is not a unique issue with the Efergy Hub. It shouldn't need rebooting so it loses a star, but other wise, the Efergy Hub and Classic are great systems and work well once you understand the limitations. They don't match your electrical meter readings. KWh really out of whack. There is no real time monitoring except for the watt meter and it is up to 30 seconds slow. You have to contact them thru their website and wait till the next day to get a response and even then they will ask you for more information and then you will never here from them again. If you really want a good system that gives you real time info then buy Sense. It's one device and can be installed in about 15 to 30 minutes. After getting no support and responses to my email, and persistent badgering I got proverbial we responded a few days ago it mus be in your junk mail. That was it but I was instant and then my unit stopped working all together.they blocked my device.I tried ringing the European number and got a very rude ignorant person who said they do not give telephone support. Well they do not give email support I told him. So he told me to put my problems in an email. Still no answer. I tried the USA same response. The support person I traced to Canada, Luke O'Shea. He tells me he knows I have been given a refund and the problem is my network. Strange how it worked then suddenly was not even recognised anymore. So not only do they give little or no support but they also have no conscience as they just lie and wash their hands. Suggest others look for alternative energy monitoring systems which have better features unless you already have some Efergy kit.When I first got the equipment it worked straight from the box and its online dashboard accessible via PC or mobile app was, once I became familiar with it, pretty good. My single star review is due to their total lack of technical support. A week ago, following a power cut in our area, the efergy engage system did not restart. After checking that all connections were intact, and replacing the batteries in the 2 x transmitters, there was still no go, but I was quickly able to access their online chat service and an engineer talked me through several diagnostic routines, all of which were unsuccessful. The fault finding took the best part of an hour and I had to leave home for an appointment. Efergy's engineer said that we had just about exhausted the fault finding options, bur perhaps leaving the hub disconnected from my network and the mains might be a good idea. On my return I tried reconnecting - but with no success. Al the above is of no concern to me. Equipment goes wrong.
