When cleaning the ceiling molding with the wand, wand and hose are so short that the whole vacuum comes off the floor and these are only 8 foot ceilings. As for stairs, yes it does a decent (not fantastic) job and I can get up 5 stairs before the vacuum starts to climb with me PLUS there's no give because the wand is an aluminum tube and the hose isn't flexible enough to add more than 2 feet. Add to that that you have to use an extension cord - even if you THINK you have plenty of outlets - in order to just do basic one-room or 5 stair cleaning. At 20 feet, consider how much shorter the cord is when you go around a piece of furniture: I measured, and was down to 11 feet. In other words, Dyson goofed and to a great extent, is deceptive with the videos (and demos on QVC and on their own site). There must be a way to make the hose more flexible, and their engineers must have known basic geometry so that the angle of the wand versus the rise of the stairs would make this impossible. The DC24 is a very good vacuum - it gets all of the dirt out of the carpet quickly and effortless. The filtering system is excellent - usually when you vacuum you get a certain kind of smell coming out of it, but with the Dyson once I was done vacuuming, the whole house smelled fresh and clear. The ball feature makes the vacuum easy to turn and get around corners and under chairs and tables with little effort.
