It's important to know the most common symbols that you will run across when looking at schematics, There are two different standards followed the American National Standards Institute and the International Electro Technical Commission. You will run into both of these sometimes inner mix. So we will cover all of the common symbols for each basic part. In this video resistors are the number one most common schematic symbol Potentiometers invariable resistors are just modified versions of resistors for potential homeowner simply add an arrow pointing down towards the Center of the Resistor. This arrow represents the potential homeowners wiper terminal Next let's talk about polarize capacitors. The Andy version will have a curved line, indicating the negative lead of the capacitor occasionally. We'll also have a plus sign by the straight line. The polarized IC capacitor will have a box and a plus sign near the positive side with a straight line indicating the negative lead. The non polarized Angie capacitor symbol, is simply too straight lines parallel to each other.First, we will cover DC power sources.Short and long lines parallel to each other these represent battery cells. If you have one long one short line represents one cell two of each represents any number of cells beyond too and requires a voltage indicator. These aren't always shown what the polarity designator, but just remember the short line is always negative. Another DC source is a simple circle with a plus and minus sign in this.

These would be found where the power source is a desktop supply or something comparable very similar to the last DC Source. The AC source symbol is a circle with a sign wave inside. Now, let's cover separate voltage and ground symbols that represent a connection back to the main power sources. We just went over to start. We will go to Digitsu dot com in the reference Design library to view a large schematic with so many connections in one schematic, it can become muddled and confusing to look at when all of the connections are sent back to the main power source. The following power symbols are some of the more common ones you'll see in large schematics meeting. For voltage, drain drain and V S S stands for voltage. Source. Source. These originated for use with Mass pets but are now commonly used for positive and negative power sources. Another similar set is the C C or voltage collector collector and V E or voltage emitter emitter. These are less common than V D D and V S S this originated. Use with transistors but are now used for positive and negative power sources. The next symbol is another variation of positive and negative voltage within a complex schematic simple lines with an arrow on top designated by V plus or B minus. Now, let's move on to ground symbols, the first two or four chassis ground and Earth ground. However, they are commonly misused as signal ground connections. True signal ground connections are either flat line or an arrow. Let's move on to. Please have an arrow with a line across the point. The line indicates the Catholic lead. If you see a dialed symbol with arrows pointing away from it, This indicates light. In other words, a lighting meeting diode or LED occasionally. The most basic type of switch is a single pole. This switch symbol is. Normally open position when actuated the switch will close and complete the Circuit. This symbol is another single pole, single throw switch that represents a push-button style actuator again.

It is drawn in the normally open position and completes the Circuit. When pushed this is a single pole double throw switch thrown with the top throw representing the normally closed position and the bottom normally open when the switch is toggled, it flips between the two positions. The last symbol is a double pole, single throw switch drawn in a normally open position. There are hundreds of other schematic symbols that you'll have to learn along the way, but this should get you started now.Wanna watch more videos Like this like and subscribe. If so, please try restarting your browser.Home SparkFun Electronics, Inc. Then stitch them together with vias. The island for C7 is obvious. I suspect just curing that will cure the C8 fault too. Then you can put most signal and positive supply wires to top layer where components are placed. For two layer PCB-s with SMD components it is more natural approach of course. Now I have moved the C7-8 and it looks that there is no island now but it stille prompts an error. Fixing one fixed both. A ground pour onbothsides rarely creates a problem. You will see that in a lot of commercial boards. I am just a hobbyist, but here is a recent board: Easy to see how the pours on top and bottom saved a lot of routing. You can see some of my knitting vias too. So otherwise.

Does the board look okay now.Isolate is how close the pour gets to borders and tracks. Spacing is how wide the pour lines are: I hope KiCad allows that level of control. I would adjust isolate before spacing. Don't go too small on the spacing. View attachment 215840 So otherwise. Does the board look okay now.Helps ensure a good ground on both sides. Your current connections are the plated through holes. Besides, make the board house work for its money. I like the way you have added more clearance between traces around the edges and edges. That allows more ground pour. I have not checked every detail, but it looks good for what you are doing. Christmas will be here soon. I think you have currently 0,508mm clearance set. I think I read two different opinions. Jpanhalt likes more clearance and trebla want to reduce it. Is that correct or do I misunderstand? If you design requires good isolation and works in high power area then you will set clearance bigger. If you want keep out copper pour for some areas, then you can either constcuct fill zone edge to keep out from these areas or if this is not possible (these areas are in middle of pour) then you can use Add keepout areas tool (underneath Add filled zones tool button in right panel) and construct these areas. You can select keepout rules for all copper areas or select copper pour only. Not that i am going to mount the pcb in anything conductive but it was nice to learn. Thank you all so much. I think I am about to place my second order of this pcb. You can check that with some gerber viewer, with Kicad Gerber viewer or with some web hosted one. I check gerber files (each layer) every time before ordering actual PCB-s. You can check that with some gerber viewer, with Kicad Gerber viewer or with some web hosted one. If I put it into manual,ie disengage the green piece from the door then it runs to the same spot and just stops even with no load. On the actual motor I can only see adjustments for closing and opening force.Try spraying in the slide on both sides of the block that pulls the door with Q20, and then try running it up and down unloaded first. Q20 is very good if it is just sticking due to the grease solidifying. It's well documented that ants can cause a short. It's well documented that ants can cause a short. My home units did exactly as you described. I removed the motor unit to investigate, on splitting the case you will see that the entire physical motor is designed to rotate a few degrees either way on a pivot inside the blue cover housing, the physical motor itself is not designed to be bolted down firmly to the cover as would be expected. Adjusting the allen key tensioners outside of the casing simply increases the spring tension the motor needs to overcome in case of a jam.
Now difficult to explain without pictures, but the plastic tension mechanism internal parts break, not the casing, but the spring mechanism, its easy to see when stripped, unfortunately not so easy to strip to their individual components, but can be done with some patience and more patience. The break allows the motor to rotate on its pivot without any tension, (Newtons third law i think.) and therefore the safety microswitch strikes and your door stops after a few cm, with or without load. I'm fortunate in that I have a lathe and small mill at home, so I was able to machine the offending broken bits out of aluminium, restoring balance and calm to the hosehold, this is a repair that cannot be done with superglue or 2 part epoxy, the parts themselves are relatively small, extruded and complex in shape. Good luck, let me know if you need a better explanation, but don't be afraid to split the motor housing, nothing will go ping and forever dissapear.!!.Try spraying in the slide on both sides of the block that pulls the door with Q20, and then try running it up and down unloaded first. Q20 is very good if it is just sticking due to the grease solidifying. Rather use a little bit of grease. When trying to open the garage tonight it will only lift the door about 20cm. On the actual motor I can only see adjustments for closing and opening force.Magnets get full of grease and stop working, be careful when taking apart they are spring loaded and will disappear into the garage never to be found. The wires also break off because of vibration. The motor will switch off if the worm gear distorts enough to bend through a blockage. My advise is get somebody out.Flagster assisted. A piece in the housing has broken. Apparently it's a common piece to break after a while. Will post some feedbackIt controls the motors sensitivity on opening and closing. Flagster was able to supply me the parts. I got them couriered down.
Franz then very kindly wrote essay detailing hope to strip the motor and replace the assembly. After an hour and a half today. Case closed, another forum success! My door opened fine but when I wanted to close it it only closed about 20cm and then opened again. I switched to manual and the door opens and closes smoothly. I switched between auto and manual several times but the door refuses to close once in auto mode. Also, is it normal for the door to switch to auto only once it is opened fully. Meaning if I set the motor to manual when it is open, pull the door down and then switch to auto and press the remote button the door wont open. But only when I fully open the door (manually) and then press the close button does the door move automatically (but only about 20cm and then opens again). Please help with possible causes and solutions. Problems are most common in the winter when power outages occur.
Homeowners in North Carolina and surrounding areas are all-too-familiar with such problems. Call 336-813-2601 Now For Repair Services When a garage door won’t function properly, the source of the problem could be in any number of given areas. Whether you have a garage door that won’t open all the way or a garage door that won’t open manually, it is best to know the most common causes of each problem and whether it is necessary to call a professional. The majority of garage doors manufactured since the early-1990s are equipped with this safety feature. The photo-eye components consist of two pieces that align face-to-face across each side of the garage door, roughly four feet above the ground. Upon activation, a pea-sized laser beam is sent from one end to the other. To summarize: Problem: blocked photo-eye Cause: obstructions Severity: mild Remedy: remove the obstruction Service call: if the eyes are misaligned Each time the door is prompted to close, the beam activates to scan the underlying clearance for obstructions. If any type of object or body part is detected, the door either halts its closure or reverses in full. The purpose of the photo-eye is to ensure the door does not close down on objects, pets or people. As a safety mechanism, the photo-eye is programmed to respond instantly to any obstruction. Consequently, the slightest bit of anything — such as a pencil or a wad of paper — can trigger the photo-eye to halt the movement of the door. In some cases where a garage door won’t close, the photo-eye will simply be dusty or dirty, and the dirt will be misinterpreted by the laser as a physical obstruction. There is also the possibility that the circuitry of the photo-eye has been damaged or saturated with moisture or rain. With some non-closing garage doors, the problem is due to a misalignment issue between the two photo-eyes. When the two sides interact, LED lights activate on both ends.
On most garage-door systems, the corresponding photo-eyes will consist of one red light and one green light. If either light becomes misaligned with the other, the beam is rendered incapable of scanning the clearance. In the funniest of scenarios, the problem will simply be due to an unplugged power cord. You might have absentmindedly unplugged the operator as you were exiting the garage through your internal door to the house. People sometimes do such things and forget having done so. Often times, however, a more serious issue will prevent an operator from receiving power, such as a blown fuse or circuit breaker. Problems with the circuit breaker should only be handled by a professional. To summarize: Problem: no power connection Cause: unplugged cord or blown fuse Severity: medium Remedy: plug cord or reset fuses Service call: if fuse is blown The issue could even be due to a faulty outlet. As such, the operator is not the only component that could possibly be robbed of a power source. If your garage door won’t open with remote activation, the problem could be the result of an expired battery in your remote transmitter. The first thing to check is the transmission receiver on the inside wall of your garage. When you manually push the button on the receiver, does the door activate. If yes, the problem is the remote and not the receiver. To summarize: Problem: dead batteries Cause: expiration Severity: mild Remedy: replace batteries Service call: no In cases like these, you are basically in luck because the remedy involves a simple change of batteries. If the batteries in your remote came pre-installed and you have never changed them before, simply slide off the back cover on the remote, remove the old batteries and take them to the store to purchase replacements of the same size. On some remotes, removal may require a screwdriver if a locking component is used to hold the batteries in place.
Before you install the new batteries, check the battery tips to ensure the ends align properly inside. Broken springs are the most common issue at hand whenever a service person is called to a residence to repair a garage door. Contact Us for Garage Door Spring Repair Broken springs are one of the most dangerous yet inevitable problems that can occur with a garage-door opening system, too. In each assembly, the door will be guided by one or two torsion springs that run horizontally over the width of the door, and by two extension springs that lift and lower the door along the tracks. To summarize: Problem: broken springs Cause: coil wear Severity: major Remedy: replace spring Service call: always Each spring is rated according to its maximum number of cycles. Once a spring has exhausted its cycles, it needs to be replaced. Springs that are used beyond their cycles are prone to snap abruptly in the midst of a door activation. In some cases, a spring will break before its expiration date. Either way, spring ruptures are loud and dangerous. If a spring breaks while you are at home, you will likely hear a loud pop resembling that of a firecracker or gunshot. Springs often break as homeowners head to work and close their garage doors remotely from their departing cars. If that is the case, count yourself lucky, as you will have missed the alarming sound. In any case, do not attempt to manually open or activate your garage door if one of the springs has broken. Furthermore, do not attempt to fix or even handle a broken torsion or extension spring. While the extension springs provide tension as the door is raised and lowered, the cables that align with each tension spring are responsible for the physical act of bringing the door up and down.
